Emotional Literacy and Transactional
Analysis
featuring Claude Steiner,
PhD
Emotional literacy is the sophisticated understanding of
what others and we feel, how strongly and why, and how to use our emotions so
that they work for us instead of against us. In this videotape, Claude Steiner
discusses the history and development of his concept of emotional literacy and
illustrates how the use of transactional analysis methods can move the person
from emotional numbness to emotional awareness, empathy, and emotional
interactivity. He also describes the three stages of emotional literacy
training: opening the heart, surveying the emotional landscape, and taking
responsibility.
Claude Steiner, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and
transactional analyst who has developed a system of emotional literacy training
over the last 20 years and conducts workshops on achieving emotional literacy
in Europe, Latin America, Australia, and the United States. He is a Teaching
Member of the ITAA and was a close colleague of Eric Berne. Dr. Steiner is
author of several books, including Scripts People Live, Games
Alcoholics Play, The Other Side of Power, Achieving Emotional
Literacy, and The Warm Fuzzy Tale. He was twice the winner of the
